About Heather Dorscher
Heather’s love for nature is what inspires her gift of painting. When out camping in the Kananaskis or walking through Fish Creek Park, she takes an abundance of photos that may one day be the subject of a painting. Heather is fascinated with the colours in the ever-changing clouds as well as the vibrant pull of the green richness from the trees. She has always appreciated the beauty and peacefulness in nature, which are the themes felt in each image.
Born in Germany, the youngest of three children, Heather grew up and lives in south Calgary. She is a loving, inspirational wife and mother of two teenage daughters and a beloved furry dog, aptly named, “River”! Although, Heather studied sciences with a focus in chemistry, during her post-secondary education, she currently works full-time as an information technologist administrator. Her love of art started at a young age being introduced to many creative outlets from her Mom. She pursued art classes in high school and passionately developed her craft through independent study and a variety of workshops. She has always kept her creative juices flowing by crafting and scrapbooking, capturing the special moments of her family’s adventures.
Heather’s art fills many walls in her own home as well as the homes of several private collections. Heather has been commissioned to design and paint a representation of an IT business to be displayed for reception. Using the colours of the company brand, Heather portrayed a giant cloud made from three rows of eight square canvases that mimicked the hexadecimal design of the company’s initials. She was also hired to paint a charming animal mural for a Beanie Baby Store, among bringing outside inside creating nature themes in children’s rooms.
In 2016, Heather decided to pursue her talent to open future opportunities. She has been dedicated to take the time to practice, regularly. Her body of work has been growing, exponentially and what started out as a creative outlet has grown into a passion that has Heather eager to share with the world. Imagine that you have been dropped into the middle of one of Heather’s paintings. Heather has captured the feeling of tranquility that will engulf you with the splendor of colour and the calmness that the natural scene depicts. You instinctively know what the climate and mood is. Heather has created an independent website to display her extensive collection and has taken steps to get noticed in Art walks and gallery showings.
Because Heather paints mainly from photographs that she has taken, her paintings hold special meaning in the moments captured. She relives those special memories, inspiring genuine productivity to develop.
Heather continues to experiment with different subjects, styles and mediums but has a primary focus on impressionistic landscape paintings in acrylic. Her work continues to evolve as she explores the great outdoors and the many methods used to express what she envisions and how it makes her feel. She enjoys the freedom to explore the abstract style when portraying the detail in floral pieces. “I love blending and mixing colours, especially greens and blues, as they are so representative of our Earth and its beauty.”
